What is Law of Attraction?

“The law of attraction is a metaphysical belief or theory, that ‘like attracts like,’ and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. According to the law of attraction, the phrase ‘I need more money’ or ‘I don’t have enough money’ allows the subject to continue to ‘need more money’ or ‘not have enough money’. If the subject wants to change this, they would focus their thoughts on the goal (having more money) rather than the problem (needing more money).” This is the definition of the law of attraction, according to the Wikipedia.

Law of attraction is a new age belief. Right? Wrong. This is an old thing only with a new packaging, a new name. The same philosophy was discovered and taught by the Buddha 2500 years ago. “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world” – he said.(Dhammapada 1:1)  According to this teachings, when our thinking aligns itself with being affluent and prosperous, we become so; if the thoughts are focused on a negative outcome, we become that negative outcome. Thus attention focused on diseases or lack perpetuates the situation.

This is the reason, we find that people caught in a negative or unhealthy situation are often trapped in a vicious cycle of seemingly hopeless situation. They do not know the law of attraction. The secret is this: In the world of mind, like attracts like. If only they knew that instead of focusing on the lack, they would do them a better service by focusing on the positive outcome they want, they could come out of the situation easily.

Our beliefs, emotions and attitudes are equally important.  They are thoughts in a subtler form that creates our destiny.  We are made of our thoughts. Body is grosser aspect of thoughts and mind or thoughts are subtler aspect of the body. Both are the same energy. Our bodies are like ice, whereas our thoughts flow like the water. Both are H2O. Only the manifestation and properties are different.

In the same way, we, our bodies and thoughts/minds are made of the same energy. It is the energy of unified consciousness. Some call it the source energy. We are made of this source energy. A conscious connection to the non-physical part of our being is necessary for our health and wellbeing. We are born to be joyful.  Only we need to remember our source, which is the source energy. We are essentially made of this nonphysical source vibration. We need to hold our focus on good, positive and life-giving thoughts. Then the natural law of attraction will do the rest of the work.
