Eat Well to Live Long

Our food and lifestyle matters most when it comes to the quality of our life and the longevity of life-span. Well, it can all be summed up in the following three phrases: Eat well, sleep well and live stress free. If you are already following these maxims then you need not read more. If you are not, then read on to know more about eating well.

Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet
Eat more fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables can extend your life, as most of them contain nutrients having anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. When you eat lots of fruits and vegetables you do not like eating junk foods that shorten life. Scientists have found that more fruits and vegetables people eat, the fewer heart problems they experience. That sure makes fruit and vegetable eating a powerful anti-aging strategy.

For many reasons such as high fiber content, high content of anti-inflammatory agents, anti-oxidants, the vitamins, and the minerals, high intake of fruits and vegetables matches with a lower rate of the age-related diseases. Low fruit and vegetable intake is known to cause about 31 percent of ischemic heart disease and 11 percent of strokes worldwide. A high intake of fruits and vegetables would dramatically help to prevent chronic age-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Avoid Junk Food
Junk foods are fast foods and overly processed foods. Junk foods are wrong food choices. Wrong food choices stress out our bodies. They cause our immunity to go down, our liver to work overtime (trying to rid the body of toxins), our hormones to fall out of balance, and our nervous system to be weakened. All of these symptoms lead to aging. Our food selections also have a powerful influence on our hormones, which in turn have a powerful effect on how we age. Ultimately, eating well and avoiding junk foods are probably the most powerful strategies to fight age-related disorders.

Role of Multi-Vitamins
The more we know about the age-related disorders, the more we understand how specific nutrients can help us age well. Often those nutrients needed for a therapeutic effect are not available in the average diet. Consistent intake of multivitamins can help support various systems in the body and protect them from the typical breakdown and malfunction that happens during aging. Herbs such as Spirulina provide such multivitamins in a natural way.

Fasting and detoxification
Consumption of junk foods, fried foods and processed meat allows toxic substances to accumulate in our digestive tracks and cells. Detoxification is house-cleaning of the body. But you do not need to spend a lot on detoxifying diet or therapies. Fasting is a wonderful means for giving and body the required rest so that it detoxifies. Try juice-fasting. However, you’d do better not to consume those ready-made juices with preservatives. Make yourself fresh juices in a food processor. Fresh juices are nutritious, they taste great and your body will thank you.

Eating well is eating wisely. We should eat to live rather than live to eat. This is the secret of health and longevity.
