Mantra Meditation Techniques

Best Practices for Mantra Meditation:

Mantra works like missile that propels the mind beyond the “gravitational fields” of the lower levels of consciousness, through all the turbulence of the unconscious mind, to the super-consciousness – and beyond. Thus, a correct process of meditation involves the production of immense psychic energy through intense love on the mantra. Different sounds have different effects on human psyche. If a soft sound of rain rustling through leaves soothes our nerves, the musical note of running stream enchants our heart.  The sacred utterances or chanting of Sanskrit Mantras provide us with the power to attain our objectives and lift ourselves from the ordinary to the higher level of consciousness.

Qualities of a Mantra:

A mantra must have three qualities to hold the restless mind steady, to energize it, and to transport it to subtler realms. It must be generate positive vibration, should not be associated with person dead or alive, it must be of one or two syllables so that it can flow rhythmically with the breathing. By controlling the movement of breathing, you can gain control over the life force; by controlling the life force, you can control the mind.

Generally, spiritual organizations polluted the mantra system by fabricating them by adding name of persons (may be considered as incarnation by popular media) into the mantra.  If you have received mantra like that, which contains such type of people’s name, stop that and take new mantra on your own. Normally, it is not known the exact mental state of that person (the so called incarnation), which is having enormous effect on mind and body. If the person (the so called incarnation), was having some diseases that may affect you, your relatives and the environments. Hence, it is always better to select your mantra on your own. You may need to do a little bit experiments with that.

How to Do Mantra Meditation

Some may think that meditation is a kind of spiritual lesson, a religious act or some kind of asceticism. That is absolutely wrong. Meditation has nothing to do with religion. Meditation is a science it is a  way to train the mind to focus clearly, and can also be an effective way, whenever you so wish, to relax your body and mind. Mantra meditation is like opening the flower.

In the beginning, you should learn to practice mantra meditation skillfully while sitting. Later, you can apply the principles learned during sitting mantra meditation to the practice of meditation in any other position; walking, standing or lying down. When you sit for meditation, you should sit in a posture which will help you to achieve tranquility quickly.

You can sit cross-legged on the floor, or try sitting on a chair if you find the floor too uncomfortable. The important thing is to keep your body relaxed, finding the best position that allows you to sit still for a long time without the risk of falling asleep! Taking care of your sitting position at the beginning can greatly improve your ability to meditate effectively.

Some people, when they first start to meditate, are so keen to make rapid progress and they add too much force. As a result they make very poor progress and often suffer discomforts such as headaches! When you first start to meditate, it is worthwhile to remind yourself that seven year old children are some of the most successful meditators in this technique, because of their playful and innocent attitude towards the meditation.

Basics of Mantra Meditation:

The awakening of the kundalinii can be interrupted by a single stroke of an effective mantra. A mantra is a collection of sound waves which can produce a powerful resonance, or sympathetic vibration, in the mind. A tantric mantra is having  inconceivable power. Mantra is, in fact, the very basis of the science of Tantra.

A Siddha mantra is one which has been invested with spiritual power by Divine. In the process of investing a mantra, the guru raises his own kund’alinii to the highest point, sahasrara chakra, and then repeats the mantra, giving it intense spiritual energy. Then he lowers his Kundalinii again.

When the mantra vibration strikes the sleeping spiritual Source within the individual, it awaken the sleeping energy. Mantras can be learned from books or other sources even from the internet. Siddha mantras are beej or seed sounds. According to the Shiddha Tantra scripture, there is no need for Guru or teacher. If you have genuine interest mantra will select you. You don’t need to search for a Guru. Often the spiritual organizations are using Gurus to earn money and to spread their business.

From the time you have selected the mantra, the more frequently and intensely the spiritual aspirant repeats it, the more the kundalinii rises under its vibrational impact. But when the repetition stops, it again returns to slumber. If the mental repetition of the siddha mantra continues all the time, day and night, the kun’d’alinii remains perpetually awakened. When the kund’alinii is sleeping, the individual remains in one of the three states: wakeful, dream or dreamless sleep. Only when the kun’d’alinii is awakened can the individual enter the fourth, turiiya, state, the state of non-duality.

Power of Mantra Sankalpa:

When a sadhaka knows thoughtless state. He can knowingly go to thoughtless state having only powerful thought in his mind. So this single thought has all energy of mind. If sadhaka has more bio energy and more experience to use this power, he can use this sankalpa for well-wishes to others. He can charge rose flower, water for several worldly problems of other.
